My life as an opiate user

My journey into this world happened seven doctors ago. So that means I've been an opiate user for 20 to 30 years through doctors prescriptions. How wrong is this?

  1. My opiate disease went through seven doctors hands I feel so violated this drug is like heroin itself or El Diablo same difference I come such a long way since those days and I would never take another opiate or any addictive drug again in my life I am now anti pill I have CBD cream which helps the pain and the breakthrough pain I smoke weed and there you have it

    1. Sounds like you've been through a lot and I can hear through your words how difficult this journey has been for you. At the same time, it's good to hear that you have found some relief from those difficulties. How was your experience with those seven different doctors? Were they helpful for you? I'd be interested to hear how they helped along your journey.

  2. Hi , Thank you so much for sharing your story. I want to reassure you that there is absolutely nothing “wrong” with having taken medications prescribed by doctors over the years. Many people develop a relationship with opioids through prescriptions, and it makes sense that your journey unfolded that way. You’ve been navigating this for a long time, and just the fact that you’re reflecting on it here says a lot about your awareness and care for yourself.

Something that can be helpful is asking yourself a couple of gentle questions:

    • Do you feel like your medication is helping you manage life in the ways you want it to?

    • Or do you feel like your use has started to create challenges or feel more like a burden?

There are no right or wrong answers here, just an opportunity to reflect. Everyone’s path with opioids looks different, and only you can know what feels supportive versus what feels problematic. No matter where you’re at, you’re not alone, and talking about these questions openly is already a powerful step. -Jessica, Team Member
